Unlike its predecessor, the new Samsung Galaxy S6 isn’t at all water-resistant, but for those who have a tendency to get their smartphones wet, the rumored Galaxy S6 Active could be on its way. Samsung has been delivering more more rugged versions of its flagship Galaxy S devices for several years now, and we don’t expect that to stop this time around. But until now, we haven’t seen any evidence of an active variant of the new Galaxy S6. But the increasingly reliable @Upleaks has tweeted about a mysterious Galaxy S6 variant that carries the SM-G890A model number, which is incredibly close to the SM-G870A model number of last year’s Galaxy S5 Active for AT&T. We should note that this is purely speculation for now, but we have no reason to believe Samsung wouldn’t launch a Galaxy S6 Active this year — especially now that the company is no longer making its standard Galaxy S handsets water-resistant. In addition to a water-resistance rating, we would expect to see the Galaxy S6 Active with a much tougher form factor — likely with a strong plastic or perhaps metal back rather than glass. It may also carry a rubberized frame.
