Samsung has been a leader in mobile silicon technology breakthrough, which allows its devices to always stay a step ahead of the competition. Today, it announced another such industry breakthrough by unveiling 8Gb of LPDDR4 mobile DRAM chip for smartphones and tablets. These new chips from Samsung are not only 50% faster than the LPDDR3 RAM being used in most Android devices nowadays, but also consume 40% less power thanks to their 20nm fabrication process. Apart from speed and power improvements, these chips also offer 1GB of RAM on a single die, which will make them the highest density chip to be available in the DRAM market. Up until now, we have seen Android devices with 4Gb (2GB) of LDDR3 RAM, except for the Note 3 that comes with 3GB (6 Gigabit) of RAM. With 8Gb LPDDR4 DRAM set to be available in 2014, it is all but confirmed that the Galaxy S5 would come with 4GB of RAM.
