Roman Nurik — the developer of DashClock and a member of the Android team at Google — has released his second app on the Play Store today: Muzei Live Wallpaper. Like DashClock though, Muzei Live Wallpaper is more than just a live wallpaper with some enticing features baked in. Muzei is a live wallpaper that automatically refreshes the background image every day with some famous art images. Users can also specify their own wallpaper source, if they feel like. The wallpaper, however, is blurred and recedes into the background allowing the icons and widgets to grab the spotlight. The Muzei app in itself is also beautifully done and has some quality animations baked in, especially the app closing or opening animation.
In typical Roman style, Muzei is open-source and has an API that allows developers and users to build their own source of wallpapers. Alternatively, you can choose your favorite photos from your own gallery or other apps to use on your home screen. To keep your wallpaper fresh, Muzei will rotate through your favorite photos every few hours.
